The Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (PRUE) started in 1907, and it was initially named as Moscow Commercial Institute, which has changed its name multiple times till what it is now.

For more than 100 years it has been the core of the academic economic community of Russia. High practice-based education and its involvement in the current economic situation of the country are the unique features of the University. The university is accredited by the Ministry of Education of Russia. Apart from that, it has accreditations of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, European Council for Business Education and the Association of MBAs.PRUE is also a member of the European University Association (suspended in 2022 due to the political situation), and the European Foundation for Management Development.

PRUE is characterised by the strong mathematical training. Profound mathematical education is delivered via the high proportion of subjects that actively use economic and statistical apparatus as well as information technologies.

At present, the strategic goal of Plekhanov University is the construction of an efficient multilevel system of continuing education in the field of economics and related fields of knowledge that meets the needs of the state, society and individual.

Students of Plekhanov University have the opportunity to obtain a double or triple diploma in joint international educational programs. The University holds an impressive ranking within the top 200 for the employment rate of students after graduation. Achievements of the University scientists are presented in numerous publications and at scientific meetings of the international level. Among the PRUE graduates, there are many prominent politicians and businessmen, such as Soviet statesman Mikhail Suslov, liberal democrat Grigory Yavlinsky, and faculty member Ruslan Khasbulatov, former Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian SFSR and later Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation.

Currently Plekhanov University of Economics provides higher education in Moscow campus and 22 branches located all over the Russian Federation and abroad. The Moscow campus is half an hour’s walk from the Kremlin. The campus includes six buildings with classrooms, offices, and laboratories, a club and a students’ dormitory, which is only 5 minutes’ walk away from the campus.
