The National University of Science and Technology NUST MISIS was founded due to the merge of three educational establishments into one. But, the history of it dates back to even earlier, when in 1918 the Moscow Mining Academy was founded. The status of technological university was awarded in 1993 and the status of a National University in 2008, when the institution adopted its current name.

As of today, the National Research Technological University MISIS comprises three Russian and one foreign branch, and eight institutions around Moscow. The University has more than 30 modern R&D laboratories and 3 world-class research centers, where the best world-famous scientists work. NUST MISIS successfully implements joint projects with leading Russian and international high-tech companies.

The university annually opened research laboratories with modern research equipment, which makes the learning process interesting and informative. Apart from that, NUST MISIS makes available international full-text electronic database.

The only one of the Russian universities, NUST MISIS became the member of the new Times Higher Education: World’s Best Small Universities Ranking, having taken the 19th position. NUST MISIS has also entered the ARWU-2018 Ranking and the TOP-100 of the ARWU Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in two directions: Metallurgical Engineering and Mining & Mineral Engineering. Besides, it was ranked the 1017th university in the world in 2023.

NUST MISIS has rolled out the most successful enrolment campaign, which made it the 4th best technical university in Russia in terms of enrolment quality.

The total number of NUST MISIS students prevails 20,000. 25% of them are international learners from 81 countries around the globe. All the international students are offered accommodation in the NUST MISIS hostel, which preserved its historical appearance. It is recognized as one of the best student residence hall complexes in Russia. Many international competitions and popular science festivals are held there. The hostel has everything one needs for a comfortable stay and study: high-speed Internet, computer classes, a reading room, a dining room and a laundry.Moreover, the NUST MISIS campuses have a well-developed infrastructure: a swimming pool, a sports complex, a hairdresser’s, a cafe, and an autonomous boiler room.

The learning curriculum for the course participants from foreign countries includes the Russian language, scientific vocabulary and special subjects depending on the program profile. Graduates of the preparatory courses receive the Preparatory Program Graduation Certificate.
