Among Russian universities, HSE University is a leader in economics, management, sociology, computer science, public policy, and political science.

In 2022 it was ranked 568th in Best Global Universities by U.S. News & World Report, and 881th by Center for World University Rankings, and in 2020 it was ranked in the 801-900 group in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Ranking.

The university boasts some of the country’s finest academic departments and research centres in economics, management, sociology, public policy and computer science.

Since its founding, HSE has been an internationally-driven university. It now has partnerships with more than 130 universities and research organizations, in the form of exchanges, double degree programmes, and summer schools. The university’s faculty and research operations have become increasingly international and its students now represent more than 60 different countries.

HSE University offers the largest number of English-taught Master’s programmes in Russia. Interestingly, HSE was the first Russian state university to hire foreign lecturers. Today over 100 lecturers from 25 countries work at the university. Since the university deliberately avoided state education programs, it focused on translation of advanced foreign textbooks which formed the basis of education programs.

HSE University students regularly complete internships at leading international companies. The survey inside the university showed that 93% of graduates are employed within the first year after graduation. Some of them take freelance jobs or continue their education.
